English:Olympics Paper The Olympics The Olympics is a series of sporting events performed by representatives of a country. These series of events are watched by millions of people across the world. There is either a Summer Olympics or a Winter Olympics every two years. The Winter Olympics is a great event because the history of the modern Olympics demonstrates the promotion of world peace and high level competition and because one of its sports, ice hockey, represents exciting action, team effort, and individual skills. First, the history of the modern Olympics is very fascinating. The first modern Olympics were in 1896 in Athens, Greece (Chevron Cars). The modern Olympics were created to promote world peace (Chevron Cars). The founder of the modern Olympics is Pierre Barren de Coubertin (Chevron Cars). The modern Olympics have a variety of games. They include Gymnastics, Athletics, Cycling, Track, Fencing, Shooting, Swimming, Tennis, Weight Lifting, and Wrestling (International Olympic Committee). Only the rich could participate in the Olympics (International Olympic Committee). The winners were given medals for how they placed; gold for first place, silver for second and bronze for third (International Olympic Committee). There was no Winter Olympics included in the traditional Olympics (International Olympic Committee). These facts are what make the Olympic history very intriguing. Finally, ice hockey is the most thrilling sport in the Winter Olympics. It is fast-paced, exciting and because of the national popularity of the N.H.L., I am able to watch it almost every day. Although Canada is usually expected to win the gold medal and holds the record for most wins, the U.S. team is also usually one of the top teams. Canada is usually the best team because the best players in the N.H.L. are Canadian. Hockey is jam-packed excitement and fun to watch.
In conclusion, the Winter Olympics is the world at its best. The Winter Olympics brings the world’s best athletes together in the spirit of sportsmanship. The Winter Olympics is an awesome occasion because the history of the modern Olympics includes the encouragement of world peace and high level competition and because ice hockey stands for the exciting action, team effort, and individual skills.
